This session was a real turning point, as I left the session finally knowing what disassembly procedure and product analysis is now! I thought it was just concerned with taking products parts and seeing how products fit together, However I have now realised it is also to do with how the product works, why it has been designed in a particular way, and how well it works for its intended purpose.
It was particularly good analysing products that are very common place such as can openers (see below). It was interesting to see how a group of tin openers which all do the same job but are are all designed differently. Some are designed to make the task easier or be stored easier or to be lighter etc. I think it was more beneficial analysing these simple objects as opposed to the ones below as it really hit home that 'EVERYTHING AROUND US HAS BEEN DESIGNED'.
After the session I noticed that I started paying more attention to products around me, I even started analysing products in my house which I have had for years but never really thought about. It has been strange going from not having a clue to suddenly seeing something everywhere!
